Mother

Mother, she called to me
Mother, she beckoned me
Mother, she held her arms out
Mother, she held me tight
After many long years
Her face I saw again
For one brief moment
Happiness, she gave to me
In her lap, my first words were spoken
Under her gaze, my first steps were taken
She blessed me with a good life
And said goodbye before I could remember
When I saw her again, after many a year
She held out her hand, and guided me in
My home, my world, my first breath of air
She gave it all back to me
And under her watchful eyes
I took a giant step
I looked back as I went down the new road
Mother, tears in her eyes,
She smiled at me...

Blue Nights

Beneath the Blue haze
The Purple Lady waits
Her lips smack scarlet
Green bills stain her hands
In the dead of the night
When the whole world snores
And the roads of the city
belong to the guns, the knives, the whores
The last cigarette she puffs
Waiting for her man to come
But the dusty road stays dusty still
And the mute dog stays dumb
With one hand on her cigarette
The other scratching the dog's ears
"I know 'tis late now, sweetheart
But I also know he will be here"
And so they waited
The mistress and her dog
Waiting to hear the master's footsteps
But the quiet night got quieter still
And yet those steps stayed away
When the last embers of the cigarette burnt out
And the dog lay down on her lap
The long awaited footsteps were heard once more
The man, after the long night, was back
Under his arms, he held a package
A promise for the lady and her dog
A spare blanket, a pillow, and one clean sheet
A few nights more
She'd sleep well
"Thank you, mister, you're ever so kind"
Said the lady beneath the purple neon sign
The dog wagged his tail
He'd sleep well too tonight
"Goodnight, you two," said the man, and walked away

Listening to two songs back to back by Phil Collins brought about this little piece. Inspired by Another Day in Paradise and Mama (Genesis).

Made of Tears

She cried
In that, she was lost
For you were made of tears
And those teardrops, she kissed
Now she holds them close
The teardrops that cling to her cheeks
The last remnant of you
For you were made of tears
In her eyes, she held you
For many a year
Her dreams, her fantasies
She shared with you
And then, that cold bristly night
She cried
And in that, you were lost
For you were made of tears

This post was inspired Joe Satriani's Made of Tears. Thanks to Annie for introducing me to that song.

55 Fiction: Good Morning

The morning sun was shining through the draped windows, and he could see her lying next to him. She was beautiful, and the sun bouncing over her made him wish he could stay like that forever, lying next to her.

"Alright, it's time to wake up," he said.

"Woof!" she answered, wagging her tail.

One Hundred

One Hundred days
One Hundred smiles
One Hundred broken eyes
One Hundred dreams
Ond Hundred mute sighs
One Hundred walks
over One Hundred roads
One Hundred trips
to One Hundred new shores
One Hundred pictures
of One Hundred memories
One Hundred pages
of One Hundred old stories
One Hundred emotions
that are One Hundred hands old
One Hundred days later
the countdown begins anew

I wait...

A warm cup of coffee
In the warm, bright sunshine
A friendly wave, a genuine smile
For the moment it all seems fine
But the world's a fragile place
And we don't seem to understand
That what may be ours today
Tomorrow might be out of our hands
In the ebb and flow of life
We must know what to hold on strong
For times are tough, and people walk fast
And life, sometimes, seems very, very long
So when I sit in that warm sunshine
And I wait for that genuine smile
The one that's followed me so long
The one I've been missing for a while
I wish that life wasn't so real
That for once, I'd know how to make amends
And hope, someday, to run back in time
And find myself with you, my friends...

160 - My Bitch

A jet black beauty
With soft brown eyes
I wanted to own her
Wanted to make her
My bitch
I stretched my fingers
And a cruel voice roared
“Watch it, man! She Bites!”

What can you say in 160 characters? (spaces included). I've seen this on Waystation's blog for a long time, but never before have I attempted anything of this sort. Until now.
