The Time Machine

“We travel through time at the speed of light.” – Abhijit Chanda
“Houston, ten seconds to launch…”
We’re floating on a speck of dust
We’re circling a ball of gas
And now, we’re moving away
“…nine…”
Pitch black above us
Grey smoke below us
We travel through time
And space
At the speed of light
“…eight…”
Infinity ahead of us
And infinity behind us
While we’re here in limbo
Oscillating between the two
“…seven…”
We pierce the velvety sky
We tear through the fabric of time
And back again
Into our reality
Waiting for that right moment
“…six…”
We envision the world
On the brink of discovery
As we wait
As we hold our breath
And the world waits with us
And holds its breath with us
“…five…”
There’s a new world beyond the veil
There’s a fresh start for us
A fresh start to us
A chance for redemption
“…four…”
Hands trembling, we march
To right the wrongs
Of the past
“…three…”
In the name of science
We hammer the laws
“…two…”
In the name of science
In the face of a breakthrough
We shut our eyes tight
“…one…”
In the name of science
We tame Time
“…ignition!”
We shudder
The machine sputters
We tremble
As the machine shakes
And then, the silence
The deafening silence
It binds us tighter
Than the belts that protect us
And many eons of silence later
We hear a lonely voice, once more
“Houston, ten seconds to launch…”

Inspired under strange and very sleep-deprived conditions from a friend’s Facebook status updates, and Ozzy Osbourne’s voice singing ‘Planet Caravan.’ Give the song a listen below.

  1. Made my breath come faster and my heart beat harder with the countdown. Very effective. Thanks.

  2. I wonder how many years it would take for this vision to become a reality
(of sorts). I know there are many skeptics out there, but I still choose to
believe that someday, in some way, this might be possible.

    Cheers...
